NIFST EAST CENTRAL CHAPTER HOLDS 1ST QUARTER MEETING 2026 IN NSUKKA, ENUGU STATE

The Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), East Central Chapter (ECC), successfully held its 1st Quarter Meeting in Nsukka, bringing together members from across the various zones within the Chapter.

The meeting was well attended by zonal representatives, executive members, and student representatives, reflecting the Chapter’s inclusive approach to leadership and professional development. The gathering provided a platform for robust deliberations on matters affecting the Chapter and the food science profession within the region.

A major highlight of the meeting was the strategic planning session for the forthcoming Regional Food Science and Technology Summit (ReFoSTS). Members extensively discussed preparation modalities, committee responsibilities, resource mobilization, and stakeholder engagement strategies to ensure a successful and impactful summit.

In addition to ReFoSTS planning, other key matters relating to membership drive, professional development activities, collaboration opportunities, and Chapter growth were discussed. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to teamwork, innovation, and sustained progress.

A seminar on Food Commercialization was presented by Prof. Gabriel Okafor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State. The topic was expository and members were educated on Intellectual Property rights and commercialization of their Research and Development Results.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of unity and shared responsibility among members, as the Chapter continues to position itself as a leading voice in advancing food science and technology within the East Central region and beyond.

The Nsukka Zone which hosted the Chapter was well appreciated for their hospitality.
